Power BI Interactive Dashboard Overview

Interactive business intelligence dashboard visualizing multi-year sales velocity, regional profitability distributions, customer segment performance, and merchandise category metrics.

Background & Project Overview

I engineered an interactive Microsoft Power BI dashboard utilizing the widely recognized Superstore Dataset from Kaggle. Through this project, I developed end-to-end data processing workflows using Power Query ETL, formulated custom calculated measures with DAX, and designed intuitive visual reporting to help stakeholders evaluate commercial performance.

This project serves as a foundational demonstration of transforming unstructured retail records into actionable business intelligence that supports strategic decision-making and profit optimization.

Key Business Insights & Dashboard Features

The dashboard delivers four core analytical focus areas for executive performance evaluation:

Sales Velocity & Profit Trends Analyzed monthly sales revenue and gross profit margins to identify seasonality and growth cycles.
Regional Profitability Distribution Mapped profit performance across geographic regions and states to identify high-margin clusters versus loss-making territories.
Customer Segment Dynamics Evaluated revenue and profit contributions across Consumer, Corporate, and Home Office client tiers.
Category & Sub-Category Performance Identified top-performing merchandise sub-categories and evaluated product return/discount impacts on margins.

Technical Methodology & Engineering

1. Data Cleaning & Transformation (Power Query ETL): Ingested raw datasets, enforced strict column datatypes, resolved missing values, and created an optimized Star Schema dimensional model.

2. DAX Formula Engineering (Data Analysis Expressions): Constructed calculated measures including Total Sales, Total Profit, Profit Margin %, Total Quantity, and Year-to-Date (YTD) comparisons.

3. Visual Storytelling & UI Dashboard Design: Integrated KPI Summary Cards, dynamic bar charts, time-series line trends, and interactive slicers for seamless cross-filtering and multi-faceted data exploration.
